What is greener, carwash or handwash?

>> 9/29/08

I read that a automatic carwash is a greener alternative then washing the car yourself. Of course I like reading that since I am sorta lazy about washing my car. Auto car washes use less water. But wouldn't the energy output at the auto wash off put any water savings? Comparing apples to oranges here. Can't decide. Anyone? Bueller?

Two things:

1. It's "than," not "then" ;)

2. I think that the auto car washes are more efficient overall, simply based on the fact that they use a much more measured amount of water. I think the electricity is probably marginal. Also, they have better drainage, since they are purpose built for car washes and recycle/filter much of the water back in.
