what is wrong with tele-commuting

>> 7/1/08

I commute an hour to work everyday. Thankfully I have found a small group to carpool with to cut the gas spend and reduce our emissions. We all agree that telecommuting for our company would be a great way to cut our emissions even more. There have been several articles throughout the blog sphere and the web about the advantages of telecommuting. Even if we just worked from home one day a week, we could make a very large impact on a company's carbon footprint overall. Since we work for an online based company, working from home is very feasible and easy. I think some push back comes from the mentality that we won't work as hard at home, or that we will get distracted. If you have kids, I think this is valid. Since it is summer, the kids might be home more and want to hang out with mom and dad. I disagree however, that you will work less when you are at home. If anything, I think we will work more. With that allowance of trust ( to work from home) most people do not want to ruin that trust or have it taken away. We are more likely to do a little extra, or put in more hours in order to retain our telecommuting privileges. ( and save all that $ on gas!!) Hopefully we can break our CEO down to let us at least do a trial run. It might take a couple beers and puppy dog eyes, or maybe we can TP his desk with all our gas receipts.... now I'm on to something.
